Agiorgitiko Gaia Anatolikos, Nemea, Peleponnessos, Greece, 2000
|ANATOLIKOS, that means “coming from the East”, is produced by carefully selected bunches of Agiorgitiko grapes from the hillsides of Koutsi in Nemea, that are left to slowly dry under the mild sun of the Greek autumn. After 3 to 4 weeks, we collect the semi-dried grapes and press them till every last drop is extracted resulting in a small quantity of highly aromatic and concentrated must. Then, a slow fermentation leads to the birth of this sweet wine.
The young wine ages in old French barriques for at least 5 years and it is bottled without any other intervention, such as fining or filtration. ANATOLIKOS continues to mature and evolve in its bottle for many years, towards complexity, as long as we provide the ideal storage conditions. Enjoy it cold but never chilled with chocolate-based desserts.
